Letters to our Children: Dear Sydney & Dear Macie

Dear Sydney,

This month marks a new adventure for all of us: potty learning. We have had your potty chair and a potty ring (Minnie Mouse of course!) for about 2 months now, along with some training undies and regular Minnie undies, but we have not wanted to push you when you were not ready. This month you have shown more and more interest in wearing your undies instead of diapers while at home. We have had a few accidents of course, and that is part of learning, but I can tell that you are figuring it out a bit more each time! One potty must have for you is a handful of books. You missed making it to the potty one time because you wanted to stop for some books – I could tell you were sad and it broke my heart. But I was (and am) so proud of you for trying.
When we started, we taught you to put your hands on your knees to help keep them from wandering into the potty. You always remember now to either read, or keep your hands on your knees. I smile every time your cute little voice rings out and I hear “puuuuuuusshhhh” – every now and then we ask you to “push” your potty out to see if anyone happens and you have picked up on that. So much so, that now every time I go to use the bathroom, you put your hands on my knees and tell me to “puuuuuuusshhhhh”, and then you throw your arms up in the air and cheer for me when I am done. You will get this sweet baby girl. Whether it takes you another week, month or a few more than that. And we are going to make the most of trying!!

Love you to pieces,

Mommy

Dear Macie,

We are so excited to meet you! About 91 days until your estimated due date – time is going so quickly. So far, we have made no progress on your nursery. I did order some crib sheets, only to have them back ordered so long that I changed my mind. However, I have already ordered your new ones and I love them so much more! We have been getting your big sister’s room ready for her since your arrival will kick her out of her current room. But no worries, yours will be ready once you arrive.

You move kiddo. A lot. I love watching my belly move as you are probably trying to switch positions or get comfortable. One night you were kicking/pushing in the same spot, so I gently started pushing back – and it seemed as if you were responding to me! You also tend to start kicking a lot when Sydney is resting on my belly. Speaking of Sydney – she talks to you! She says hi to you often through my belly button, which means pulling up my shirt every time to do so.

Because I look at them almost daily:

We are so excited to meet you!

Love you to pieces,

Mommy

Chalk | Minneapolis, MN lifestyle photographer

I spent the afternoon doing exactly what my almost two year old wanted to do. We colored, we went grocery shopping in the kitchen with her grocery cart, we dressed her dolls up, and we played chalk. It was easier for me to get my camera out and use it while she was using her new chalk – and looking back I wish we had photos of everything else we did that afternoon. Just us playing.

I would love the opportunity to come into your home for a few hours and do a lifestyle session with you. We can plan ahead what our time will loosely look like (will your family bake cookies, play a board game or two, ect) and capture that. Photo sessions do not always have to be about the perfect smile and everyone looking. They are about the fleeting moments that we will never get back.

So what do you say? Interested? Contact me at hello@kephotomn.com and let’s chat about what your session will look like! I am offering a discount for the first two families to book their lifestyle session with me!

Letters To Our Children: Dear Sydney

Dear Sydney,

I can hardly believe that in 14 days you will be 2 years old. Let’s step back and take a look at you at just 10 days old:

In a short few months you are going to be a big sister and I know that you are going to love and adore your little sister so much. Ever since finding out you were going to have a little sister I have caught myself day dreaming of all the things you two might do together and everything you will teach her. Your kind heart already shines bright at (almost!) 2 years old – I know you will protect her and love her with everything you have. This world is big – so knowing you two will have each other makes it a little less scary.

You like to talk. A lot. Which should come as no surprise since I talk a lot and at times, your daddy does too. Your language skills have exploded and it amazes me every time you repeat what we are saying (yes, we are watching what we say around you now!) or point at objects and correctly label them. You love the color blue right now. Everything is blue – even when it really isn’t. But that’s okay. We will learn and figure it out together. Except you can not always wear your blue diaper cover sweetie – sometimes it gets dirty and has to be washed.

We recently joined a gymnastics class. Watching you play and follow the teachers lead makes me smile every week. You do so well following instructions in class! You really love bouncing (“bounce, more, please?”) on the trampoline with me and swinging on the lower uneven bar. You even hung from the rings in class! You look so tiny on the big floor trampoline and it amazes me watching you hang from and swing on the lower bar! The one hangup with gymnastics you seem to have – is that you do not like wearing a leotard. In fact, I can’t get you to put it on. It is really cute so I am a little sad – but your colorful tank top onesies work just as well with a pair of shorts or sweat pants!

At the suggestion of a few friends, your daddy and I submitted your photos to a few agencies for modeling. Wouldn’t you know – we had some interest and signed on with one! I never want this to take away from you being a kid, but I do think about your future and the money you receive from jobs you may book would help keep your college fund growing. It is a big world and I want you to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way.

I will always support you and help you to do the things you want to do and try. Please know that if there ever is a time I say no – it isn’t because I am being mean, or unreasonable – it is because I truly believe it isn’t something you should do at that time and I am looking out for your best interest. And I know you will, because every child does it – but try not to go behind my back to your daddy, or your daddy’s back to me when one of us says no. Believe it or not we actually talk about a lot of stuff – and you are a big part of that and always will be! There are a lot of battles you will have to fight in this world – if we can take any away from you we will.

There is so much more that I want to tell you and share with you – and that time will come. But for now, it is your job to explore this big world that is in front of you.

I love you baby kid.

Mommy
